It's a funny thing that Google hasn't included the 'Categories' gadget in the layout elements, which I believe is a must if your blog is not based on a single topic or genre.
b) Enter the title as 'Categories' or "Topics' or whatever you wish to.
So brace yourselves for the next 10 minutes or so and we will see how to add this so called 'Categories' gadget to your blog.
Follow the Steps below:
1. Label every post of your blog with a name that you want your categories to be named as or the category that post should be included in.
For instance, I want this post to come under 'Enhance your blog' and I have included that as one of the labels.
2. Go to layout -> Click on 'Add a Gadget'.
3. Now add 'Labels' gadget by pressing on the blue colored "+" symbol.
4. a) Next you will see something like this
b) Enter the title as 'Categories' or "Topics' or whatever you wish to.
c) Tick on Selected Labels and edit the labels you want to see i.e. select the name of the topics.
d) Select the sorting type.
e) Select List type Display or Cloud, if you want to (I personally prefer 'List').
f) Then save it.
5. You are done with adding the 'Categories' gadget to your blog. The result should look something like this.
